My personal memory of Gib Shanley is from many years ago at the old Cleveland Municipal Stadium. We were leaving an evening party and it was very icy. I had high heels on and suddenly slipped.
From out of nowhere, Gib Shanley caught me under the arms and stood me on my feet before I hit the ground.
I was so surprised and exclaimed "Oh my God!" Besides falling, I didn't want people to think I had been drinking too much at the party.
Gib said to me, "It's these new shoes with the plastic bottoms - everyone's slipping and falling."
Ever since, whenever I'd see him on TV I'd remember the night that Gib Shanley held me up.
